Zombies in Cobh

Day 12: June 28, 2012

View from the top of the hill.
Same port as the Titanic
Today we went to Cobh, the first and last port of the Titanic. It did not look like a big port town, but I guess back in the early 20th century it might have been pretty exciting. We went on a day when I think we were the only ones there. Cobh was practically a ghost town. We started out on our journey from our apartments an hour before our train left. Not realizing the train station was more than an hour away, especially when you take the scenic route, we had to rush there to make it on time. Our entire group was drained. We have been doing so much exploring around Ireland that I think it finally hit us all at the exact same time. We rolled into the train station like a hoard of walkers (term for zombies used in the historically accurate non-fiction television series, “The Walking Dead” on AMC, only one of the greatest shows ever made). Once we arrived in Cobh (the ghost town) we took over like the pack of zombies would have, looking immediately for food. After we found what we were looking for a group of us decided to head up to a cathedral at the top of the biggest hill ever. Yes, JMU readers, there are bigger hills than the ones we have to walk on a daily basis. It was well worth the hike. We caught some beautiful views of the harbor and once we reached the cathedral, the last thing on my mind was how out of breath I was from the walk.
